Hawking’s Bubbles

“Hawking’s Bubbles” was inspired by a photograph of soap bubbles. The image immediately struck me as a futuristic version of the traditional crazy quilt.
Technique: each ‘bubble’ was individually constructed from batiks, velvet and tulle. Bubbles were machine and hand pieced, then applied onto a black background and stuffed with batting. Beading was added around the bubbles.
